About Simply the BreastSimply the Breast® yacht race concept was the brain child of Penny LaSette, who had been involved, many years before, in the running of another yacht race. The star attraction was to be a cash prize of $2,000 for the winning yacht and the benefits to Dragons Abreast to tap into the yachting fraternity to help provide a wonderful new event that would create breast cancer awareness and raise much needed funds in a very unique way.
Fortunately for Dragons Abreast, Wayne Huxley, a very competent yachtsman and Mike Butler, Commodore of The Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Club at the time, felt this was a brilliant idea and rallied to help. Successive committees of Dinah Beach, with Commodores Phil Campbell and Ilse Schreurs, have continued to enthusiastically support this one of a kind event that sees Darwin Harbour turned into a floating pink billboard for the breast cancer cause.
The inaugural Simply the Breast® yacht race attracted a fleet of 48 yachts for a spinnaker start and the race has grown from strength to strength with 2011 celebrating the 6th Anniversary.
